Celiwe Mchunu

Celiwe was born and raised in Chesterville, Durban. She matriculated from Sastri College in 2005 and, after taking a gap year, went on to complete her BSc in Physiotherapy at the University of Cape Town in 2011. She fulfilled her community service at Nkandla Hospital in northern KwaZulu-Natal, where she gained valuable experience working in a rural healthcare setting.

Following community service, Celiwe worked briefly at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg before returning to Durban, where she took up a position at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. In November 2015, she joined Shamim Khan Physiotherapists and credits her professional development to the mentorship and clinical support she received there. In 2017, she completed her certificate in Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy (OMT), further advancing her clinical skills in musculoskeletal care.

Between 2019 and 2021, Celiwe worked in Oshakati, Namibia — an experience that broadened her perspective and clinical insight. She returned to Shamim Khan Physiotherapists in 2021 and has been an integral part of the team since. Her clinical interests include neurorehabilitation and the treatment of cervicogenic headaches.

Outside of work, Celiwe is a mother of two and enjoys spending time with her family. She values new experiences, enjoys walking regularly for wellness, and has a background in indigenous games, having represented Team KZN during her gap year in 2006.
